Mitchell-Innes & Nash is pleased to present at the 2013 edition of The Art Show ARP: SCULPTURE and DRAWINGS and RELIEFS, a solo installation of works by Jean Arp. This will be the gallery’s third large-scale Arp exhibition organized with the collaboration of the Stiftung Hans Arp und Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Rolandswerth, Germany.

The booth will gather together a selection of works by the artist ranging from the 1920s to the 1960s. Early works on paper from the 1920s will be seen along-side bronzes and a rare plaster sculpture titled “Torse.”

Jean Arp was born in Strasbourg in 1886 and died in Switzerland in 1966. As a sculptor, painter and poet he was active in several art groups, including Der Blaue Reiter, the Cabaret Voltaire where he was a founder of the Dada movement and, later, the Surrealists.

His interest in finding new forms of abstraction based on the natural world (such as plants, seeds, animals, constellations and the human figure) as well as his interest in chance and unconventional materials continues to influence generations of artists.
