Press Release

Mitchell-Innes & Nash is pleased to announce their forthcoming exhibition, "Carole Seborovski: Recent Works", which is scheduled to run from February 24 through April 1, 2000, Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. The drawings of Carole Seborovski are distinguished by an intimacy of scale, monochromatic palette and an elegant balancing of opposites both in content and form. Her work is meditative, embodying a sensitive touch and contemplative mood. In the words of the artist, "Through the intuitive process, I like to create co-mingling associations that are balanced and grounded in a calm center." The work inventively utilizes paper by using collage both over and under the main format of the drawing, creating a many-layered and richly eventful surface. The drawings are elegant and exactingly crafted with careful attention paid to the component parts (overlapping, abutting, wrapping, folding, tearing and crumpled vs. flat surfaces). A wide range of juxtaposed textures: rough, polished and the velvety, create a poetic suggestiveness. Carole Seborovski, born in California in 1960, has exhibited extensively in New York and Europe since 1984. Her work can be seen in upcoming exhibitions at the Neuberger Museum of Art, at Purchase College in New York, and at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Her work is also represented in the permanent collections of major museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, the Museum of Modern Art, NY, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY.
