Press Release

Mitchell-Innes & Nash are pleased to announce the opening of their inaugural Modern exhibition—selected late works by the French painter Nicolas de Staël. This will be the artist’s first show in New York in over 30 years and will consist of works loaned by American and European private collections, museums and the family of the artist. Represented in the exhibition are fine examples of de Staël’s major themes: still-life, landscape and abstract paintings as well as a group of collages and drawings. A fully illustrated color catalogue, with an introduction by Eliza Rathbone, curator of the Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C., and essays by Anne de Staël, the artist’s daughter; André du Bouchet, well-known French poet; Dominique Levy and Simon Studer, co-organizers of the exhibition, is also available through the Gallery.
