Mitchell-Innes & Nash and Matthew Marks Gallery are pleased to announce Willem de Kooning: Drawings and Sculpture. This two part exhibition will take place simultaneously in their galleries at 1018 Madison Avenue and 523 West 24th Street respectively.

The exhibition will include 80 drawings and 20 sculptures in bronze and plaster made between 1960 and 1980. All of the works come form the artist’s Estate and the majority are exhibited here for the first time.

The drawings include work made in pencil, charcoal, ink as well as oil on paper. The works range in size from 10 by 8 inches to 26 by 40 inches. The original plaster of Clamdigger, 1972, de Kooning’s best known sculpture, will be exhibited for the first time.

A fully illustrated, 120 page catalogue, with an essay by Peter Schjeldahl will be published to accompany the exhibition.

Willem de Kooning: Drawings and Sculpture will remain on view at the Matthew Marks Gallery, 523 West 24th Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues) and at Mitchell-Innes & Nash, 1018 Madison Avenue (between 78th and 79th Streets) through December 19. Both galleries will be open from Tuesday though Saturday, 10:00am to 6:00pm. In conjunction with Willem de Kooning: Drawings and Sculpture, the Public Art Fund will be exhibiting two monumental sculptures from the artist’s Estate. Standing Figure, 1969-84, will be on view at Doris C. Freedman Plaza at 59th Street and 5th Avenue, and Reclining Figure, 1969-82, will be on view at Bryant Park at 41st Street and 6th Avenue. These sculptures will be exhibited from October 10 through Spring 1999.
