Press Release

Mitchell-Innes and Nash is pleased to announce the exhibition "Mariana Cook: Close At Hand" which is scheduled to run from June 27th through August 10th, 2001. The exhibition presents a selection of photographs from Cook's most recent body of work taken in and around the environs of her New York apartment and during her travels abroad. Captured daily over a span of two years, the series is a record of the inspiration Cook draws from everyday objects. "Close At Hand" reflects a dramatic shift in the content of Cook's art. While her previous series have focused on the relationships between individuals and family members, Cook's new pictures expound upon the intimacy of the earlier series. Her subjects float within the frame, often shadowless and graceful, reflecting the perfection of their exposure and printing. Cook's "Generations of Women", "Mothers and Sons", and "Fathers and Daughters" have all been exhibited in New York in the past years. Following the "Couples" show in January and February of 2001, "Close At Hand" is the second of Cook's solo shows at Mitchell-Innes and Nash. Approximately twenty photographs will be on view. An opening night reception will take place at Mitchell-Innes and Nash on June 27th from 6 to 8pm.
