Mitchell-Innes & Nash will present Unique, a show of one-of-a-kind sculptures by 12 modern and contemporary artists, in their Upper East Side space. The exhibition is a showcase for unique, non-editioned works created without the use of molds or casts. The sculptures on view range in date from 1913 to 2006 and are constructed of materials including ceramic, papier-mâché, cork, wood and common found objects. The show will examine the diversity of materials that artists use when they push away from more traditional sculptural media. Works by Modern masters include a Jean Arp wood relief; a Jean Dubuffet cork sculpture and an early Max Ernst carving. Sculptures by contemporary masters include hand-painted ceramic coffee cups by Roy Lichtenstein; a gun construction by Tom Sachs; a paper airship by Bryan Hunt; a pigmented papier-mâché head by Kiki Smith; a classic wedge piece by Haim Steinbach and a wall assemblage by Jessica Stockholder.
